TWO OLD BUCKS

125: Interview with Bruce Rettig, author of Refraction: An Arctic Memoir

David and Del Episode 125

Send us a text

The Bucks interview Bruce Rettig, who talks about his experiences working 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle in the summers during his college years in the mid-1980s.

Bruce talks about his roots, the work ethic instilled in him by his father, and arriving at Prudhoe Bay as a total greenhorn to work 12-hour days doing monotonous and sometimes treacherous work in support of the Alaska pipeline.

Bruce meets some interesting characters along the way, learns some lessons about people, about the land, about shades of gray, and about himself.
